Reds for Autumn

The morns are meeker than they were,
The nuts are getting brown;
The berry's cheek is plumper,
The rose is out of town.

(Emily Dickinson)

Domaine Jean Guiton

2013 Savigny-Lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Peuillets (GUIT34213A)
Wines from Santenay are known for sauvage, a heady, bramble character - and here it is, but the sandy soils of the vineyard give a forward red-fruited and beautfully textured wine, brimming with energy and finishing on a long sweet note.

Case size
Weingut Jülg

2013 Spätburgunder 'R' [26 15] (JULG76213A)
Much more structure to accompany the pure red fruit. There is a silkiness, a juicy intensity, and lots of minerals on the long finish.Most of Johannes Jülg's vines are just over the border in France overlooking Wissembourg. The grapes for the 'R' grow in the clay soils of the Wormberg vineyard, which lends power and richness, and its north-westerly aspect keeps the wines cool and fresh. The fruit is juicy and pure and an elegant minerality emerges on the long finish.
