The Wines of J. Christopher

‘Don't force the vineyard, don't irrigate the crap out of it, don't spray a bunch of chemicals on it, and do all the hand labor right.’ is winemaker Jay Somers pithy view of vineyard management. With the resulting excellent fruit, his goal is to make wines in a Burgundian style: focussed, long and balanced, rather than the alcoholic fruit bombs so often found in the North-West. And he certainly succeeds. The wines have a purity and individuality that perfectly reflect their origins.

Since 2010, he has been in partnership with German winemaker Erni Loosen. They bought a 40-acre property on Chehalem mountain, near Portland, planted vines and built a winery. The vines are farmed biodynamically. Jay continues to source fruit from some of Oregon’s best sites for his many different wines.

2013 PINOT NOIR Sandra Adele, Dundee Hills (JCHR30213A)
A blend from two outstanding vineyards in Dundee Hills: Abbey Ridge and Charlie's Vineyard.'Abbey Ridge is known as the Amoureuses of Oregon, and contributes a delicate floral quality. Charlie's gives a mineral depth. The whole fine, delicate and juicy, with a persistent mineral backbone. Quite lovely.
