Seven years on, 2011 Burgundies are beginning to shine. Tucked between two rather better-know vintages, they have been unjustly neglected. Both colours are proving excellent current drinking, and the best have much time ahead of them. And looking back, the prices look very attractive.

More linear than the Charmes, with a pronounced minerality that gives an ethereal quality, balanced by intense sour red cherry fruit. Long rich finish. Quite superb.

Generous pretty red fruit, depth, finesse and intensity, with a touch of mineral on the finish.

Perfumed fruit, with excellent length and intensity, and a fine tannic edge.
2011 VOLNAY 1er cru, Taillepieds (DUBL65211A)
Much more serious than the Pitures, with a dark knot of fruit at its core. Very pure, elegant and long.
2011 MOREY-SAINT-DENIS 1er cru Les Blanchards (DUBL66211A)
Good tension here, with balanced ripe black fruit, present fine tannins and a pleasing mineral kick. Rich finish.
2011 COTE DE NUITS VILLAGES Rue des Foins (FORN11211A)
Dense weave of red and darker hedgerow fruit, present tannins and considerable elegance. Long intense finish.

Ripe red fruit. A lovely tension on the palate, with clear mineral flavours and silky tannins.

Dark juicy fruit of great depth and intensity. Enormous reserves of coiled power. Mineral, rich, very fine and long.

Dense ripe black fruit, juicy and rich. Very fresh and fine on the palate, chocolatey tannins, and a sweet long finish. Beautifully pure.

Very big, and very silky, with a lovely sweet core of fresh dark fruit laced with spice and chocolate. Very ripe soft tannins. Long intense finish.
