Biodynamic viticulture and vinification

Württemberg is a thirsty state: until recently few of its wines were exported, and with no real competition, there was little impetus to make world-class wines. Now it’s all change: thanks to growers like Jochen Beurer, it has emerged onto the domestic and now international stage with serious, well crafted and unique wines.

The Remstal was traditionally an area dominated by cooperatives, and it was only in 1997 Jochen Beurer that decided to found his own estate. Not content with that, he also took the decision early on to go biodynamic, and is a key player in reviving forgotten local grape varieties. He eschews cultured yeast, and makes authentic mineral-driven wines from sandstone and gypsum keuper soils.
