It is a cool spot, and 60% whole-bunch fermention has yielded dark, stony black fruit with smooth tannins and a long juicy elegant finish. Its 12% alcohol makes it an appealing prospect.

Rosé

2017 Schmätterling Rose (ZIER04217A)
Made from 90% Pinot Noir, with a dash of Regent, this 2017 pink has become more complex after eighteen months in bottle. It is still fresh, vibrant and fruity, with a rounded creaminess on the finish, but has gained an extra dimension: the strawberry is joined by cranberry, and a faintly herbal note from the skin contact provides a pleasing counterpoint, making the wine a great match for food.

White

2014 Steingrüble Gutedel Unfiltriert (ZIER10214A)
Weighing in at a refreshing 12% alcohol, it is a complex wine with smoky, smooth juicy yellow melon fruit, pointed lemony acidity, a creamy rich middle courtesy of 22 months on the lees, and a powerful, elegant stony finish – not surprising when the vineyard is on the site of a former quarry.

2016 Jaspis Gutedel 10 hoch 4 (ZIER26216A)
104 refers to the vine density - originally planted in 1968 - Hans-Peter doubled the amount of vines per hectare in the oldest part of the Steingrüble vineyard in 2001 to get closer to Burgundian models. The wine shows what Gutedel – known as Chasselas across the border in Switzerland – can do when challenged. This is a supremely fine wine in anyone’s book, up there with the best Burgundies, showing that Gutedel is not only a superb reflector of terroir, but can also produce something of extraordinary complexity and intensity. Overnight skin contact after picking gives freshness, structure and a hint of bruised apple, backed by bright citrus fruit, a dash of cream and a minerality that grows more persistent as it glides to an infinitely long, smooth finish.
