2018 Himmelreich GG [12 19] (SHAE04218A)
Christoph Schaefer has not made a GG since 2012, mainly because in other years he feared there was too much acidity, but in 2018 the balance was just right, so the grapes normally destined for an Auslese were fermented dry. It is a typical Schaefer wine: pure, fine and mineral-driven. The nose is creamy and floral, and in the mouth there is very juicy crisp acidity, a lovely flowing texture to the yellow fruit and a very fine salty minerality framing ? and keeping in check ? the ripeness of the vintage. The finish is salty and extremely long.
2014 Riesling [01 15] (SHAE06214A)
Rounded, ripe orchard fruit - mainly pear, with a note of pine honey and grapefruit, supported by a pleasing dash of mineral. The whole is very pure, and the finish fresh and long.
2018 Graacher Himmelreich Kabinett [02 19] (SHAE12218A)
Fresh and floral, this is a lovely, effortless, flowing Kabinett with complex fruitiness and a little salty heat on the finish.
2016 Graacher Himmelreich Kabinett [02 17] (SHAE12216A)
Delicate, ripe and floral, with very expressive mineral notes, this is playful and charming, but long and intense, too.
2014 Graacher Himmelreich Kabinett [02 15] (SHAE12214A)
Deliciously light and playful, this gambols elegantly across the palate, showing pear, lychee and fine mineral flavours. It is pure, delicate and balanced, but there is extract and power here too as it drives to a long juicy mineral finish. A really lovely Kabinett.
2013 Graacher Himmelreich Kabinett [02 14] (SHAE12213A)
Pretty floral and stone fruit notes, delicious lemon acidity, well-balanced and with a smooth mineral flourish on the long finish.
2018 Graacher Domprobst Kabinett [03 19] (SHAE13218A)
A little more power, a little more stony flavour, but there is extraordinary elegance in the yellow fruit that has elements of fresh green and even red fruit. The acidity is ripe and gentle, and there is a tangy salty vibrancy on the long finish.
2018 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese [17 19] (SHAE15218A)
A linear wine of purity and elegance, with a green note to the ripe peach and floral elements. It is delicate, fresh and poised.
2016 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese [17 17] (SHAE15216A)
From young vines in the newly replanted (tiny) parcel, now four years old. There is forward peach and some tropical fruit, typical floral notes and a hint of fresh herbs too. The minerality breaks through this market garden, and it finishes on a lingering juicy, salty note.
2018 Graacher Himmelreich Spätlese [08 19] (SHAE18218A)
Meltingly elegant, there is a stony edge on the nose which gives definition to the sweet ripe floral fruit, and the finish is juicy, a little smoky and satisfying.
2016 Graacher Himmelreich Spätlese [08 17] (SHAE18216A)
Elegant yellow fruit and a playful floral ripeness combines with a rich salty minerality to give elegance, purity and length
2014 Graacher Himmelreich Spätlese [08 15] (SHAE18214A)
Some pure botrytis flavours add to the complexity, but do not diminish its purity. There is bags of energy, vibrant fruit and a clear salty mineral edge, but it manages an effortless gentleness and elegance, and there is no trace of weight. A long juicy finish promises a great future.
2013 Graacher Himmelreich Spätlese [08 14] (SHAE18213A)
Elegant, pure and fine, showing yellow fruit, a soft, gentle botrytis that adds a note of decadence, and a very fine clean minerality. It is weightless and playful, harmonious and bursting with energy.
2018 Graacher Domprobst Spätlese [10 19] (SHAE20218A)
The richness of Domprobst comes through in the form of perfumed, golden-yellow fruit, a dense, sweet texture and underneath, a vanishingly elegant smoky minerality.
2016 Graacher Domprobst Spätlese [10 17] (SHAE20216A)
Dark, creamy mineral tones dominate at present, but there is yellow fruit too, as well as green notes of quince, gooseberry and herbs. The finish is juicy, astonishingly elegant and long.
