Weingut Rudolf May en primeur

Back to producer list Grower profile 2017 was full of challenges: a dry start to the year was followed by heavy rain in July, which led to disease pressure, and was not helped by the ubiquitous April frosts. Lots of hard work saw off the problems, and the resulting vintage has great potential.

2019 Silvaner [02 20] (MAYR06219A)
Young vines from great sites with shell limestone soils give a bright, lemony wine with an appealing freshness, and there is pronounced salty stony minerality that builds towards the finish. Fantastic quality at this level.

2019 Silvaner Retzstadt [04 20] (MAYR10219A)
Made from vines between 25 and 40 years old, this village is rounded and fine, with well delineated pear and citrus fruit, and a pure lean saltiness on the long finish. It is bottled in the traditional Franconian Bocksbeutel. (For those of you who remember the 70s, think Mateus Rosé...)
