Weingut Peter-Jakob Kühn en primeur

Back to producer list Grower profile 2007 was a difficult season. Frost on 28th April caused losses of 25% of the crop, but secondary bud growth mitigated this, and the growing season proceeded calmly. The real blow came on 31st August, when a small but violent hailstorm cut a swathe through the middle of their holdings. Fortunately the weather in early September was fine, the affected berries shrivelled and dropped off, and there was no danger of rot. Yields are low, but the quality is extraordinary.

2019 Lenchen Kabinett [10 20] (KUHN52219A)
Harvested from a parcel rich in quarzite, this is a powerful, just off-dry wine with cool herbal and lemony fruit, smooth balancing salty minerals and a juicy precise finish. Quite the best Rheingau Kabinett I have tasted.

2019 Lenchen Spätlese [11 20] (KUHN58219A)
Harvested a week after the Kabinett from vines around the winery, where there is more iron in the soil. The fruit is powerful and very juicy: floral and golden-yellow notes with an undertone of strawberries are tempered by smooth stony flavours building in intensity to a long off-dry finish.

2019 Lenchen Auslese [12 20] (KUHN60219B)
Harvested a little later from the same parcel as the Spatlese. It's not about power here, but density and balance. The wine is poised and supremely comfortable in its skin, seamlessly melding aromatic citrus and red fruit, even some blackcurrant, smooth salty stony flavours and juicy acidity.
