2016 Pinot Noir [24 18] (GRUN95216A)
The Pinot Noir from Grünhaus is becoming increasingly complex as the vines age, drawing a fine minerality from the slaty soils of the abtsberg. There is rich ripe red fruit with a savoury character and a hint of smoke, and a long powerful finish.
2017 Pinot Noir [21 19] (GRUN95217A)
10-year-old vines in the Abstberg are giving wines of increasing complexity. Frost severely reduced yields, and the very small berries have produced rich, juicy crushed red fruit, a distinct smoky note, firm fine tannins and a bitter chocolate finish.
2017 Herrenberg GG [17 18] (GRUN10217A)
A lean, elegant wine with energy and power. There are cool grassy notes and a fine clearly delineated minerality, and a juicy vibrant finish.
2012 Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Superior [04 13] (GRUN16212C)
Intense peach, floral and herb aromas, complemented by gooseberry and creamy mineral flavours in the mouth. Very fine and fresh.
2017 Herrenberg Kabinett [12 18] (GRUN20217A)
Cool, green and vibrant, this shows elegant citrus and pear notes and a smooth pure minerality that makes it taste almost dry all the way to a fine finish.
2011 Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Auslese Fuder 84 [08 12] (GRUN52211A)
From a parcel of particularly ripe golden berries. Bright, pure and long, but elegant rather than powerful. Pure mango and well-delineated mineral flavours mingle on the palate. Very long and fine.
2019 Herrenberg GG [03 20] (GRUN10219A)
A lean, smooth, very fine wine with pithy citrus and juicy fresh green notes, plenty of salty flinty mineral flavours and a very long fine finish lasting for minutes.
2019 Abstberg GG [16 20] (GRUN11219A)
More powerful than the Herrenberg, with greater density and weight. There is a lovely juicy green freshness, ripe yellow pear fruit and a pithy, very fine ripe slaty minerality on the long finish.
2018 Abstberg GG [08 19] (GRUN11218A)
Old vines give a smooth, silky wine with heady floral and fresh herbal notes, rich yellow fruit, a juicy ripe defining acidity and a dark stony core building to a long creamy finish.
2018 Herrenberg Kabinett [03 19] (GRUN20218A)
Always a perfectly judged Kabinett from the poor soils of the Herrenberg: it is juicy and very elegant, the fruit cool and floral, and there is fresh pithy sweet grapefruit on the finish.
2018 Abtsberg Kabinett [02 19] (GRUN22218A)
Ripe and generous but still featherlight, this is packed with dense yellow stone fruit, gooseberry and the herbal freshness so beloved by Grünhaus fans. It gets structure from the fine gentle smoky slate notes, and the finish is seamless, elegant and long.
2018 Abtsberg Spätlese [06 19] (GRUN32218A)
Very forward and approachable this year with is a burst of complex fruit – honey, melon, gooseberry and a hint of tropical – as well as a powerful floral note, but this is more than matched by the dense mineral character and vibrant ripe acidity. And despote all this going on, the wine never breaks a sweat: it is smooth and seamless right through to the long finish.
