2018 Graacher Himmelreich Kabinett [03 19] (PRUM10218A)
Pure, generous bright citrus fruit gives way to a soft creamy middle, there is a hint of earthy stone, and the elegant floral notes are complemented by a smooth, slightly salty finish.
2017 Graacher Himmelreich Kabinett [05 18] (PRUM10217A)
Zingy, beautifully elegant and fine, this is full of citrus and smoky mineral flavours, and finishes exceptionally long.
2018 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett [04 19] (PRUM12218A)
Here's a perfect example of why Kabinett is all the rage again. There is so much going on: new flavours tumble over each other so rapidly that it's hard to keep pace. The fruit is playful and full-throated, a blend of floral and vibrant citrus, there are cool very linear slaty flavours and the whole is pure, melting and elegant, not to mention smoky, smooth, fine and very long. Only Mosel Kabinett can do this, because it refreshes the parts other wines cannot reach.
2018 Graacher Himmelreich Sp?tlese [07 19] (PRUM20218A)
A wine on fire: boundless energy, purity and elegance in one. A smooth, restrained elegance prevails. The fruit is floral and peachy, the backing minerality has an appealing smoky earthiness, and the finish is juicy and long.
2012 Graacher Himmelreich Sp?tlese [03 16] (PRUM20212Y)
2018 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Sp?tlese [08 19] (PRUM22218A)
As always, this is the finest and most effortlessly elegant of all the Pr?m Sp?tlesen. The scented golden-yellow fruit is tightly wound, itching to unfurl but kept in check by powerful, linear slaty notes that develop smoky spicy flavours as the wine glides to a long, saline finish. An absolute cracker.
2017 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Sp?tlese [10 18] (PRUM22217A)
As always, this is the finest and most effortlessly elegant of all the Pr??m Sp?tlesen. It is particularly dense this year, and shows typical perfumed floral fruit and a persistent minerality on a long smoky finish.
2016 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Sp?tlese [12 17] (PRUM22216A)
Charm itself: transparent, pure and effortless, each element stands out clearly and combines in a harmonious whole. It is perfumed, floral and playful, with a zinging creamy minerality that makes it taste almost dry. Quite lovely.Charm itself: transparent, pure and effortless, each element stands out clearly and combines in a harmonious whole. It lovely. dry. 2014 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Sp?tlese [09 15] (PRUM22214C)
Very expressive and vibrant, with peachy fruit and a long intense finish. Will come around earlier than the other Auslesen of the vintage. Drink 2022-2040.
2017 Graacher Himmelreich Auslese [12 18] (PRUM30217A)
An unusually high proportion of botrytis - around 30% - gives this a round smoothness, but the touch is so light that there is no loss of transparency. There is pithy citrus fruit, a hint of yellow plum and a long fresh smoky finish.
2016 Graacher Himmelreich Auslese [09 17] (PRUM30216C)
Magical poise and bags of energy on this vibrant, dense and elegant wine. There is ripe pure yellow plum and pithy grapefruit, lemon-tinged acidity and a smoky melting minerality on a long, powerful finish.
2018 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese [12 19] (PRUM32218B)
What so many growers are going for, but don't achieve: as close to effortless as you can get. There is enormous energy, a steely core of smoky slate, loads of sweet ripe yellow fruit, ripe lemony acidity and a melting, long rich finish. It will last longest of all the Pr?m
2017 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese [13 18] (PRUM32217A)
Confession: during our tasting, I wrote: "bright, vibrant and gorgeous" and then stopped, swept away by how delicious this wine tasted. Only years of experience and professional rigour forced me back to my notebook. So yes. It's full of energy, as well as smooth peachy fruit tinged with pithy citrus, floral flavours, an exceptionally finely woven minerality and a very long, balanced finish.
2016 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese [13 17] (PRUM32216A)
All things to all men: delightful ease and charm, but also serious depth and complexity. There is white peach and hints of riper tropical fruit, vibrant citrus acidity and a hugely intense smoky minerality that keeps the wine focussed, pure, and tasting almost dry. It is effortless, ethereal, and while delicious now, will provide pleasure for many decades. (Did I mention that I liked it?)
