2017 Abtsberg Spätlese [17 18] (GRUN32217A)
A burst of vibrant peach and powerful lemon flavours give way to a fresh smooth salty minerality and an incredibly long fine finish. This will be delightful young, but if you can wait ten years it will be perfectly poised and magical.
2011 Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Spätlese [06 12] (GRUN32211A)
As close to effortless as it gets: perfectly balanced tropical fruit, mineral and ripe zingy acidity in an almost weightless package.
2017 Abtsberg Auslese [15 18] (GRUN42217A)
A hint of botrytis on the nose in the form of ripe golden-yellow fruit gives an expectation of sweetness, but such is the intense pithy citrus acidity and salty minerality that it tastes almost dry. A very fine wine, but one that will require patience.
2015 Abtsberg Auslese [11 16] (GRUN42215B)
Botrytis beginning to show at this level, but it's delightfully fruity and light, emphasising the ripeness of the tropical fruit, and backed by brisk acidity. The finish is smooth and long. Drink 2017 - 2035
2012 Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Auslese [15 13] (GRUN42212B)
Glides across the palate in a perfect expression of purity and elegance. Beautifully defined yellow fruit with some gooseberry and pithy mineral flavours. Understated and very long.
2015 Abtsberg Auslese Fuder 24 [12 16] (GRUN52215A)
Very elegant, intense, smooth and fine, this bursts with energy and bright tropical fruit and salty flavours. There is power here too, and a very fine pure finish. A quite extraordinary wine. Drink 2024 - 2040
2011 Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Auslese Fuder 84 [08 12] (GRUN52211A)
From a parcel of particularly ripe golden berries. Bright, pure and long, but elegant rather than powerful. Pure mango and well-delineated mineral flavours mingle on the palate. Very long and fine.
2018 Riesling Monopol [01 19] (GRUN08218A)
From fruit in the Herrenberg picked at various times during the harvest, so there is zing provided by just ripe grapes as well as richness from fully ripe ones. It is juicy and refreshing, a perfect calling card for the estate, showing yellow fruit with a herbal note and a gentle hit of salty slate.
2018 Abtsberg Superior [09 19] (GRUN16218A)
The finest grapes of the Abtsberg, fermented with minimal intervention to near dryness. There is lovely purity and intensity to the juicy citrus fruit, shot through with honeysuckle, cassis, vine flowers and grassy notes, and the finish is powerful and long.
2018 Herrenberg Kabinett [03 19] (GRUN20218A)
Always a perfectly judged Kabinett from the poor soils of the Herrenberg: it is juicy and very elegant, the fruit cool and floral, and there is fresh pithy sweet grapefruit on the finish.
2018 Abtsberg Kabinett [02 19] (GRUN22218A)
Ripe and generous but still featherlight, this is packed with dense yellow stone fruit, gooseberry and the herbal freshness so beloved by Grünhaus fans. It gets structure from the fine gentle smoky slate notes, and the finish is seamless, elegant and long.
2018 Herrenberg Spätlese [05 19] (GRUN30218A)
Smooth, mouth-filling and ripe, there is an appealing spicy note to the cool green fruit and a fine interplay between the sweetness and ripe acidity, underpinned by slaty flavours towards the finish.
2018 Abtsberg Spätlese [06 19] (GRUN32218A)
Very forward and approachable this year with is a burst of complex fruit ? honey, melon, gooseberry and a hint of tropical ? as well as a powerful floral note, but this is more than matched by the dense mineral character and vibrant ripe acidity. And despote all this going on, the wine never breaks a sweat: it is smooth and seamless right through to the long finish.
2018 Abtsberg Auslese [36 19] (GRUN42218A)
The fruit is intensely perfumed, the body of the wine rich and dense and then an abundance of mineral bass notes pulls it all together. A very pure and lively Auslese that is a bit full-on in youth and will mellow in bottle.
