2016 Pinot Noir [24 18] (GRUN95216A)
The Pinot Noir from Grünhaus is becoming increasingly complex as the vines age, drawing a fine minerality from the slaty soils of the abtsberg. There is rich ripe red fruit with a savoury character and a hint of smoke, and a long powerful finish.
2017 Pinot Noir [21 19] (GRUN95217A)
10-year-old vines in the Abstberg are giving wines of increasing complexity. Frost severely reduced yields, and the very small berries have produced rich, juicy crushed red fruit, a distinct smoky note, firm fine tannins and a bitter chocolate finish.
2017 Maximin Riesling [02 18] (GRUN02217A)
A lovely example of Ruwer Riesling: bright, fresh and with typical cool green herbal notes set against apple and citrus flavours.
2017 Herrenberg GG [17 18] (GRUN10217A)
A lean, elegant wine with energy and power. There are cool grassy notes and a fine clearly delineated minerality, and a juicy vibrant finish.
2017 Abtsberg GG [06 18] (GRUN11217A)
Always a little more generous that the Herrenberg, there is richer fruit here, with fresh peach notes joining the typical cool green flavours. The minerality is pure, smooth and clear, building gradually to a long finish.
2015 Abtsberg Superior [23 16] (GRUN16215A)
The finest grapes of the abtsberg, fermented with minimal intervention to near dryness. The result is a powerful, off-dry wine, ripe and spicy, with bags of fruit and bright acidity. Drink 2019 - 2025
2012 Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Superior [04 13] (GRUN16212A)
Intense peach, floral and herb aromas, complemented by gooseberry and creamy mineral flavours in the mouth. Very fine and fresh.
2017 Herrenberg Kabinett [12 18] (GRUN20217A)
Cool, green and vibrant, this shows elegant citrus and pear notes and a smooth pure minerality that makes it taste almost dry all the way to a fine finish.
2016 Herrenberg Kabinett [04 17] (GRUN20216A)
An absolutely magical Kabinett this year. If you like Òem old-style, then this is for you: it is lean and pure, there is dense gooseberry and herbal fruit and so much focussed minerality on the finish that it tastes dry.
2016 Abtsberg Kabinett [13 17] (GRUN22216A)
There is more obvious fruit than in the Herrenberg, a fine yellow layer on top of the herbal spice notes. The minerality is slaty and pure, and fits into a seamlessly elegant and vibrant whole. There is absolutely everything to like.
2015 Herrenberg Spätlese [09 16] (GRUN30215A)
Typical gooseberry and herb notes run through this, enveloped by vibrant sweetness and elegant mineral notes. Drink 2017 - 2032
2013 Maximin Grünhäuser Herrenberg Spätlese [07 14] (GRUN30213A)
Well-balanced, gentle, and fine with a delicious acid mineral kick.
2017 Abtsberg Spätlese [17 18] (GRUN32217A)
A burst of vibrant peach and powerful lemon flavours give way to a fresh smooth salty minerality and an incredibly long fine finish. This will be delightful young, but if you can wait ten years it will be perfectly poised and magical.
2017 Abtsberg Auslese [15 18] (GRUN42217A)
A hint of botrytis on the nose in the form of ripe golden-yellow fruit gives an expectation of sweetness, but such is the intense pithy citrus acidity and salty minerality that it tastes almost dry. A very fine wine, but one that will require patience.
2015 Abtsberg Auslese [11 16] (GRUN42215B)
Botrytis beginning to show at this level, but it's delightfully fruity and light, emphasising the ripeness of the tropical fruit, and backed by brisk acidity. The finish is smooth and long. Drink 2017 - 2035
