Schloss Lieser en primeur Back to producer list
Thomas Haag and his right-hand man Philipp Veser must be the best organised people in the Mosel: they dealt smoothly with the challenges of frost and rot, and because yields are down by a third, the resulting wines are concentrated and quite brilliant.

2019 Sl Kabinett [04 20] (SCLI10219A)
Playful, elegant and very pure, with freshness and a spicy cool minerality to complement the floral elderflower and herb notes.
2019 Juffer Kabinett [10 20] (SCLI12219A)
Delicate aromatic floral notes and yellow fruit mingle in this charming, accessible wine. It is a little richer and more rounded than the Helden, but has zingy ripe citrus acidity, lots of fine salty flavours and finishes on a lean, almost dry mineral note.
2019 Niederberg Helden Kabinett [08 20] (SCLI13219A)
Reduced yields make themselves felt even at this level: the wine is tightly woven and you sense the pressure of the ripe vintage at the edges. The flavours are amplified: dark stony minerals, bright citrus, herb and yellow fruit, but despite the density it is playful, light and completely transparent.
2019 Goldtröpchen Kabinett [12 20] (SCLI16219A)
The deep soils here make this a little more approachable: it is rich, round and powerful, with generous yellow fruit. So far so typical, but then vintage character kicks in: fresh cool herbal notes, bright lemony acidity and a very finely woven slaty minerality that leads to an almost dry saline finish.
2019 Niederberg Helden Spätlese [14 20] (SCLI20219A)
High levels of sunburn damage meant faster ripening for the remaining grapes, so the Helden had to be harvested first. The balance is just right: densely structured yellow fruit, brisk lemony acidity and a typical dark earthy core ending on a fine salty note.
2019 Juffer Sonnenuhr Spätlese [15 20] (SCLI22219A)
Leaner and less rich than the Helden, the yellow fruit here is partnered with a more linear minerality, and the wine is finer and a little longer, with less obvious power. Below the delicate surface though, a firm backbone easily balances the vibrant acidity, and promises a very long life.
2019 Goldtröpchen Spätlese [17 20] (SCLI23219A)
Rounded yellow fruit is joined by spicy herbal notes, and a very fine stony minerality that drives to a long, juicy salty finish. Bags of energy here too, and all the hallmarks of great longevity.
2019 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese [20 20] (SCLI27219A)
An amazing achievement. How can a wine be so intense and rich, and yet so lifted? And you're back to Amoureuses. Heady floral aromas are joined by cassis and elderflower, and there is a superfine mineral structure elevating the yellow fruit, well-integrated ripe citrus acidity, ad a silky salty finish. Cor!
2019 Goldtröpchen Auslese [21 20] (SCLI29219A)
The richest of the Auslesen produced here. The fruit is round, yellow, and ripe, peachy with hints of the tropical and spice, but the acidity is brisk and keeps it fresh, underpinned by powerful dark wet slate that leaves the tongue tingling for minutes.
