2017 Pinot Noir Niederberg Helden [46 19] (SCLI80217A)
Now firmly back in the stable after an absence of some years. The Helden Pinot vines were part of a parcel of Riesling purchased in 2009. Thomas decided not to grub them up, and has made a red wine 'for fun' ever since. It bears all the hallmarks of the Lieser style, each element clearly delineated and in harmony: very spicy delicate ripe strawberry fruit, juicy acidity, fine tannins and an intense slightly smoky finish.
2017 Himmelreich GG [22 18] (SCLI04217A)
A very poised wine, made in an uncompromising reductive style, but showing all the elegance of which the Himmelreich is capable: there is floral fruit, lightness and vibrancy, and a juicy mineral flourish on the finish.
2017 Juffer GG [21 18] (SCLI06217A)
A model of transparency: there is floral fruit, bright lemony acidity and a breathtakingly fine minerality. This is an "entry level" GG, but has more energy and pure elegance than many grander names.
2017 Graacher Himmelreich Kabinett [07 18] (SCLI11217A)
White peach and floral notes, along with a distinct smoky element, are joined by crystalline slatey minerality and vibrant citrus flavours.
2017 Brauneberger Juffer Kabinett [08 18] (SCLI12217A)
The fruit is floral and delicate, there is a gentle mineral touch, a vibrant juicy core and a long fine finish. As cool and refreshing as water from a mountain spring.
2017 Lieser Niederberg Helden Kabinett [06 18] (SCLI13217A)
A little more depth and precision to this juicy, peachy wine which maintains excellent balance between the pure fruit and mineral flavours all the way to the finish.
2017 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett [09 18] (SCLI14217A)
Pithy grapefruit and floral fruit is supported by fresh lemon acidity and a very elegant mineral layer. The finish is fine and long.
2017 Piesport Goldtröpchen Kabinett [10 18] (SCLI16217A)
Ripe yellow fruit shading to the tropical in a wine with great depth and power, bags of lemony acidity and a strong mineral flourish on the finish.
2017 Schloss Lieser Kabinett Collection (SCLI18217A)
2 bottles each of Lieser, Himmelreich, Helden, Juffer, Sonnenuhr and Goldtröpchen: an ideal way to sample the individual terroirs.
2017 Lieser Niederberg Helden Spätlese [11 18] (SCLI20217A)
Ripe yellow fruit of great elegance and persistence runs through this, backed by a dark minerality and a long dense finish.
2017 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese [13 18] (SCLI21217A)
There is more power and a more pronounced minerality in this, but no shortage of elegance to the floral and citrus fruit, and a complex sweet/sour/saline finish.
2017 Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Spätlese [12 18] (SCLI22217A)
Heart-breaking elegance and finesse here: the fruit is meltingly fine and floral with a touch of ripe peach, the finish bright and long.
2017 Piesport Goldtröpchen Spätlese [14 18] (SCLI23217A)
The second vintage from a 0.7-ha plot. The texture here is very fine and elegant: intense yellow peach and tropical fruit combine in a wine of depth and persistence.
2017 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese [16 18] (SCLI27217A)
Beautifully elegant and smooth floral fruit, a delicate minerality and a juicy core make this a Sonnenuhr up with the best of them.
