2018 Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune 'Au Crêtot' (CAMI06218A)
Crêtot is a north-facing vineyard with limestone soils that is slow to ripen, so one of the last to be harvested. It is a racy wine with pretty red fruit, well-defined tannins and a fine mineral backbone.
2018 Santenay (CAMI12218A)
From two plots – Les Bras, with pebbly soil, and Les Saunières, made up of heavier red soils – one below and one above the Clos Rousseau. The vintage suits it: the tannins are that bit riper and more elegant, the fruit is rich, floral and red, and there is a hint of licorice on the long complex finish.
2018 Ladoix Les Chaillots (CAMI14218A)
Les Chaillots touches the grand cru Corton Le Rognet, and is on a south-east facing slope with rich clay soils on a limestone base. It is pure, lively and red-fruited, with an exuberant juicy middle, a mineral edge and some extra texture from the fine-grained finish.
2018 Marsannay 'Les Longeroies' (CAMI16218A)
A blend of grapes, some grown on limestone-rich soils on the upper slopes, and others from old vines in clay soils lower down. This is unexpectedly fine, with a wealth of blackcurrant fruit and a gentle, smooth stony heat on the finish.
2018 Santenay 1er cru Clos Rousseau (CAMI20218A)
From the heart of the vineyard, the Clos des Roches Noires - a Clos within the Clos. Everything that is best about Santenay: very pure, lifted fresh red fruit and a stony mineral edge that gives structure and balance. It is finely woven and complex, and the finish is long and satisfying.
2018 Maranges 1er cru Le Croix Moines (CAMI22218A)
The last 1er cru of the Côte de Beaune, from a vineyard with white marl soils. The grapes are sourced from the top of the hill, and are always ripe, but never too much so, as the terroir lends firmness, or, as one well known wine writer put it, ‘bonesetting tannins’. There is crunchy, sweet red fruit, mild fresh tannins and hints of salty mineral, all pure and clearly delineated.
2018 Vosne Romanée 'Les Chalandins' (CAMI30218A)
Les Chalandins is neatly situated below Echézeaux, close to the wall of Clos Vougeot. The vines range in age from 25 to 70, and are prone to millerandage, adding an extra dimension of sweet richness to the fruit. Half the wine is fermented in whole bunches, this year showing violet and spicy fruit, a silky middle and a long dark smooth finish.
2018 Morey Saint Denis Clos Solon (CAMI31218A)
Densely woven black fruit is joined by very rounded dark smooth tannins, and there is a pleasant brambly note on the finish.
2018 Gevrey Chambertin 1er cru Lavaut Saint Jacques (CAMI36218A)
100% whole clusters give a structured, perfumed wine with very pure bright hedgerow fruit. As befits an exposed hillside vineyard, there is an airy, fresh feel, accentuated by fine tannins and a saline finish.
2018 Corton Renardes (CAMI41218A)
Made from organically farmed fruit, and 100% whole bunches, this is about elegance and complexity rather than power. There is sweet, vibrant raspberry fruit, and lean fine tannins leading to a fresh long finish.
2018 Corton Le Rognet (CAMI42218A)
A welcome return after an absence of some years. A sweet powerful wine with intense spicy red fruit, rich tannins and a very fine saline seam that lends freshness and balance.
2018 Clos Vougeot (CAMI48218A)
From two parcels: Petit Maupertuis, with thin, limestone-rich soils, and Hautes Baudes, lower down the slope, which has more clay and gravel. It is very elegant this year, with a wealth of red scented fruit that covers the rich tannins so well that they only emerge towards the end, together with a dark saline flourish. A wine with depth and complexity.
2018 Charmes Chambertin (CAMI52218A)
A pure, elegant wine with sweet floral fruit, and a dense rounded chocolatey middle, finishing on a fine fresh note.
2018 Chambertin (CAMI58218A)
The big brother of the Charmes – more serious, deeper and very rich. Over half is made with whole clusters, giving extra energy to the densely woven spicy black and red fruit. It is fragrant and pure, with length provided by very fine chocolatey tannins and a lean minerality.
2018 Saint Romain Sous Le Château (CAMI72218A)
More elevated vineyards shine in a warm vintage, and this is no exception: the fruit is scented, bright and fresh, with a dash of cream and a zippy finish.
2018 Auxey Duresses Blanc (CAMI73218A)
A rich, creamy wine with rounded ripe fruit, a gentle caress of a complex melting stony mineral flavours, lifted and defined by a vibrant lemony freshness that make it a delight.
2018 Meursault Les Vireuils (CAMI74218A)
A vineyard high on the hillside with a high limestone content gives a pure, flinty wine with delicate floral aromas and a long fresh finish.
