2018 Passetoutgrain L'Exception (LAFA06218A)
Half Pinot and half Gamay from 90-year-old vines result in a smoky, spicy and floral wine with purity and elegance.
2017 Passetoutgrain L'Exception (LAFA06217A)
Half Pinot and half Gamay from 90-year-old vines give a very spicy, ripe and rounded wine with lovely energy, fine tannins and considerable charm.
2018 Bourgogne Rouge (LAFA08218A)
Villages quality here: packed with dense rich red fruit, energy and fine tannins, this has intensity, complexity and length.
2017 Bourgogne Rouge (LAFA08217A)
Rich red fruit shades to a spice-laden black, and there is lots of bright energy through to the smooth plummy finish, adding up to something very enticing.
2018 Volnay (LAFA10218A)
A wine at ease with itself: it is dense, juicy and bright, with a frame of serious tannins, pure ripe red fruit and bags of energy finishing on a smooth salty note.
2018 Volnay Vendanges Selectionnées (LAFA12218A)
Vines just below the 1ers crus, give power and density to this spicy wine. It is full of rich red fruit, and has purity and great length.
2017 Volnay Vendanges Selectionnées (LAFA12217A)
From vines just below the 1ers crus, this is warm, spicy and rich, with depth, balance and bright crunchy acidity.
2018 Beaune 1er Cru Les Aigrots (LAFA21218A)
2018 Beaune 1er cru Grèves (LAFA22218A)
It reflects well on the great care the domaine takes of its vineyards that 97-year-old vines here are able to produce a crop of 36 hl/ha, and the result is not what you’d expect from old vines. Instead of concentrated thick juice, you get a flowing, harmonious and beautifully pure wine that leaps out of the glass in very ungeriatric fashion.
2018 Volnay 1er cru Les Mitans (LAFA28218A)
A classic Volnay: there is plenty of silky spicy red fruit, the tannins are vibrant, subtle and melting, and there is a fresh juicy long finish with a pronounced salty note. What’s not to like?
2016 Chiroubles Domaine Lafarge-Vial (LAFA50216A)
Perfumed delicate red fruit is backed by good structure and a long smooth finish.
2015 Chiroubles Domaine Lafarge-Vial (LAFA50215A)
Harvested on 27th August, and showing perfumed berry fruit and marzipan. It is smooth and dense with a lovely floral finish.
2015 Fleurie Bel Air Domaine Lafarge-Vial (LAFA54215A)
Harvested on 2nd September from two parcels: Bel Air, and Cercillon, a new acquisition just above it. It is intensely floral, elegant and fine, with appealing delicate fruit and superb length.
2014 Fleurie Bel Air Domaine Lafarge-Vial (LAFA54214A)
'Ca Pinot!' exclaimed one of our group in surprise. Indeed, it has the finesse and complexity of its well made Pinot Noir cousin further north, with lovely fruit, balance and intensity. Great stuff.
2018 Bourgogne Aligoté Raisins Dorés (LAFA02218A)
None of your lean acid bombs here: harvested towards the end of September, this is ripe and fresh, with yellow fruit and a subtle herbal character.
2017 Bourgogne Aligote Raisins Dorés (LAFA02217A)
All the clear brightness of a good Aligot? combined with the ripe roundness of the vintage: lovely!
2018 Meursault (LAFA03218A)
There is nothing flabby about this: it is rich, yes, but also very juicy and structured with ripe pear fruit and chalky stony flavours on the finish that lend freshness.
2017 Meursault (LAFA03217A)
Not produced since 2015. The fruit is rounded, nutty and ripe, and kept on the straight and narrow by a vibrant streak of lemony acidity.
2018 Beaune 1er cru Clos des Aigrots Blanc (LAFA04218A)
The fruit is poised and spicy, and there is energy and depth, along with a smooth saline finish.
