A rounded, rich ripe wine heady with spiced plum, melting dark tannins and a juicy freshness leading to a long chocolatey finish.
2017 Auxey-Duresses (ARMA22217A)
The estate's humblest wine, but paradoxically the last to be harvested. There is fresh vibrant spicy raspberry fruit, good depth and an earthy tannic structure that balances it nicely.
2018 Volnay (ARMA24218A)
A lovely silky rounded wine with generous black fruit, juicy freshness and some chocolatey tannins coming through on the finish. This is accessible and delightful.
2017 Volnay (ARMA24217A)
Nice to have this back after its absence last year due to frost damage. A burst of fresh raspberry fruit settles down to be silky, smooth and gentle, with a lovely relaxed fluidity all the way to the gentle finish.
2018 Auxey duresses 1er cru (ARMA30218A)
From vineyards abutting Monthélie, taken from two parcels, one clay-rich, the other predominantly limestone. It is more structured than the village, and the fruit not quite so ripe, carrying a distinct red note. The tannins are fine and melting, and there is some new oak on the finish that will need a bit of time to integrate.
2017 Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru (ARMA30217A)
From a vineyard abutting Monthélie. The fruit is blacker than in the village, but equally spicy, and there is greater intensity and richness. The tannins are structured, but ripe and fine, almost melting, and there is a long, generous and fresh finish.
2016 Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru (ARMA30216A)
From a vineyard abutting Monthélie. A wine with bags of energy, ripe, perfumed and crunchy, perfectly balanced and elegant, and an almost ethereal finish. If you are looking for a wine that epitomises all that is best about 2016, here it is.
2017 Pommard 1er Cru Clos Des Epeneaux (ARMA32217A)
Normally there is some whole-bunch fermentation used here, but this year the harvest was so plentiful that there was room only for grapes, and no stems in the cuves. The wine is none the worse for it - in fact it is the most delicious I have tried in cask. It is rich and dense, with a core of ripe spicy black fruit and lots of power but remains elegant and pure with no trace of heaviness. A fresh green minty note balances the ripe chocolaty melting tannins, and the finish has a big hit of saline minerality. This is so seductive it is tempting to drink it right now, but it has considerable potential and will be lovely for years to come.
2014 Pommard 1er Cru Clos Des Epeneaux (ARMA32214A)
Just 12 hl/ha produced, and all vinified together rather than in separate parcels - the procedure when yields are normal. As elegant as ever, this has a core of dark red fruit tinged with black pepper and cloves, firm but fine tannins and a very long finish. Drink 2020 - 2030
2016 Volnay 1er Cru Les Fremiets (ARMA40216A)
Adjacent to Pommard, and thus always on the more powerful side. No new wood used here, and the result is very spicy, with notes of clove and cinnamon to complement the intense, plummy ripe fruit. Lots of energy here too.
2018 Bourgogne Aligoté (ARMA06218A)
A blend of two varieties of Aligoté ? Doré and Vert. It is quite delicious: fresh, forward and ripe, with good intensity and a juicy finish.
2018 Bourgogne Blanc (ARMA09218A)
Ripe, perfumed yellow fruit shading to the tropical is held up by juicy acidity and an edge of stone on the finish.
