2013 VOLNAY Vieilles Vignes (BOUL22213A)
From warm, sunny red soils in mid-slope. There is perfumed black cherry fruit on the nose, leading to a lovely juicy palate, where a dense knot of fruit and very fine tannins, a hint of mineral and bright pure acidity add up to a wine of considerable depth. One of the star village wines from the C'te de Beaune this year.
2011 VOLNAY Vieilles Vignes (BOUL22211A)
Rich spicy, darker fruit with a generosity in the mid-palate lifted by vibrant mineral flavours. Very pure: each element clearly delineated as the wine develops in the mouth. Fresh, intense and long. Will need some time in bottle.
2013 VOLNAY Clos de la Cave (BOUL24213A)
Powerful and concentrated, with ripe fruit of great intensity and fine tannins for this level. It finishes long and rich.
2012 VOLNAY Clos de la Cave (BOUL24212A)
From the vineyard surrounding the cellar. Sweet ripe fruit of great intensity, beautifully textured supple tannins and a persistent fine minerality. Long silky finish. Very exciting.
2013 POMMARD (BOUL26213A)
Mostly from the top of the Vaumuriens vineyard, higher up on the slope, with cooler white soil. Light and pure, with lovely fresh red fruit and a vibrant fine tannin structure. Lots of energy and balance, with a delicate mineral flourish on the finish
2012 POMMARD (BOUL26212A)
Mostly from the top of the Vaumuriens vineyard. Fresh, ethereal crunchy black fruit belies the greatconcentration, and combines with linear tannins to form a very balanced package. Beautifullypure and bright.
2011 POMMARD (BOUL26211A)
Mostly from the Vaumuriens vineyard, and by his own account the best ever from this domaine. Crunchy core of gorgeous black cherry, intense mineral flavours and supple structured tannin. Masses of energy and brightnessMostly from the top of the Vaumuriens vineyard. Fresh, ethereal crunchy black fruit belies the great concentration, and combines with linear tannins to form a very balanced package. Beautifully pure and bright.
2013 BEAUNE 1er cru Les Reversées (BOUL30213A)
From well drained, sunny soils. Grape bunches are small, with a good deal of millerandage and this year, there was 40% whole-bunch fermentation. The wine has a perfumed and lifted nose, lovely texture, dense fruit and a fine tannic core. It is very fresh and aromatic, with a hint of menthol on the ethereal finish.
2012 BEAUNE 1er cru Les Reversées (BOUL30212A)
80% whole-bunch fermentation this year. Fine, densely-woven ripe fruit, and smooth silky tannins. It has vibrancy, freshness and length.
2011 BEAUNE 1er cru Les Reversées (BOUL30211A)
40% whole-bunch fermentation as usual, which imparts aromatic complexity and freshness. Intense black hedgerow and red cherry fruit, well-structured minerality, fine silky tannins and a long finish. Very accessible and lovely.
2013 VOLNAY 1er cru, Carelles (BOUL40213A)
From old vines in the middle of the slope that catch the sun, growing in deep red soils mixed with chalk. Their age give depth and density to this structured, pure wine, and there is a huge core of vibrant sweet fruit, delineated by dark tannins and fresh saline minerality. It finishes long and fine.
2012 VOLNAY 1er cru, Carelles (BOUL40212A)
10% of a normal crop, but what there is of it is quite extraordinary. Very concentrated but with no heaviness, driven forward by juicy elegant fruit and silky tannins. Effortless elegance and purity, with great length.
2013 VOLNAY 1er cru, Caillerets (BOUL42213A)
Young vines, all bunches destemmed this year. Ripe, perfumed red fruit mixes exuberantly with lots of fine tannins, leading to a velvety finish.
2012 VOLNAY 1er cru, Caillerets (BOUL42212A)
Red soil gives masses of expressive ripe floral fruit, then in mid-palate the bedrock emerges with an energising mineral push. Very fine and fresh. A delight.
2010 VOLNAY 1er cru, Caillerets (BOUL42210A)
Young vines on pebbly soil ripen early and give rounded black fruit with plenty of mineral notes. Powerful and long.
2013 VOLNAY 1er cru, Clos des Chênes (BOUL44213A)
The most powerful wine in the line-up: massive fruit and concentration, but still maintaining effortless elegance and freshness. Big, fine tannins and a long rich finish make this a keeper.
