Domaine de l’Arlot Whites

Undersung, Underrated, but Wow!

Côte de Nuits whites are often neglected in favour of their famous cousins further south, but are very fine in their own right, and superb examples of white Burgundy at its best.

Domaine de l’Arlot have been making whites from a limestone-rich corner of the Clos de l’Arlot since Day One. There is a small quantity of Pinot Beurot amongst the Chardonnay vines, which some critics argue is responsible for the floral character in the wines. Or perhaps it’s the terroir.

La Gerbotte is made from younger vines in the Clos; only grapes from much older vines are used for the Clos de l’Arlot Blanc itself. A very welcome benefit is that these wines do not oxidise; I have never heard of a faulty bottle.
